Help us bring the Northern Suburbs home
Published on 23 May 2022
The State Government will soon ask residents to vote on whether they support the transfer of the Northern Suburbs to the Rockhampton Region.
Mayor Tony Williams said this is our chance to say ‘yes’ to a bigger and better region that’s fairer for everyone.
“This is the most important decision for our community in a decade,” said Mayor Williams.
“By saying ‘yes’ to bringing the Northern Suburbs home to Rockhampton, you’re saying ‘yes’ to the future of our region.
“You’re saying ‘yes’ to more jobs, more services, more voices for our community and more people to share the load.
“You’re also saying ‘yes’ to a fairer region for everyone.
“People in Glenlee, Glendale and Rockyview have told us that they want to come home to Rockhampton.
“It seems so obvious that these suburbs should be part of our region that I’m sure it will surprise some people to learn that they’re not already.
“Their lives are here – their kids go to school here, they shop here, they work here.
“They spend their time at our parks and on our roads. They are part of our community and they’re a big part of our future.
“At the moment, however, they’re paying rates to Livingstone to prop up the coast.
“In a few weeks’ time the Electoral Commission Queensland (ECQ) will send out a letter to every enrolled elector in the Rockhampton Region, the Northern Suburbs, and Livingstone.
“The letter will have information about the upcoming poll, as well as a unique code that you will need to use to vote.
“This vote is an opportunity for our whole community to raise our voice along with the residents of the Northern Suburbs.
“It’s our opportunity to fight for our community - and for a better, fairer region.”
