Council approves preferred site for Rockhampton Hockey Association

Following discussions with the Rockhampton Hockey Association, Rockhampton Regional Council has today endorsed Kalka Shades as the location to expand hockey facilities and build associated infrastructure.
Acting Mayor Tony Williams said the original plan to relocate the RHA to Olive Street in Parkhurst had required significant additional investment which wasn’t feasible for the Region’s ratepayers or RHA members.
“This has been an ongoing discussion with RHA and it is pleasing that we have agreed on a site and can now start working towards delivering the infrastructure to provide for the growth of hockey in our Region,” Acting Mayor Williams said.
“We have been working very closely with RHA about this and they have endorsed this proposal as the preferred option going forward due to the Olive St proposal simply becoming too costly for the benefit they would receive.
“Council is also continuing to talk to Rockhampton Cricket Incorporated about how this will work with their infrastructure and we will keep having those discussions throughout this process to ensure both organisations can continue to meet their objectives in providing active sporting and recreation services to their members,” Acting Mayor Williams said.
The Rockhampton Hockey Association project has been jointly funded by the RHA, Council, the Australian Government and the Queensland Government’s Works for Queensland program.
