Rockhampton is set to fly in two new directions with today’s highly anticipated announcement of Queensland-based airline JetGo launching its new routes to Rockhampton as of 28 September.
The aircraft arrived at the Rockhampton Airport this morning with JetGo CEO Jason Ryder making the welcome announcement of its direct flights to Townsville and the Gold Coast.
Rockhampton Region Mayor Margaret Strelow said Council’s new partnership with JetGo is a major step forward and an exciting feat trebling Rockhampton’s city connections.
"This announcement is a welcome boost to both our tourism and business markets," Mayor Strelow said
"The Townsville connection will make it easier to do business to the north, and of course the connection to the Gold Coast will allow us to cross market our own tourism offerings with the huge market in that part of the State."
Chairman of Council’s Business Enterprise Committee, Councillor Neil Fisher, said he is proud to see the partnership forge ahead.
“This is a great bonus for us. Our Airport is one of the State’s top performers in terms of passenger numbers and we are well equipped and ready to welcome JetGo and its passengers with open arms,” Cr Fisher said.
“They saw a margin for opportunity and growth to provide an unmatched service and our next step is to provide a level of support that will see JetGo provide more routes in the future.”
Jetgo will offer three return flights per week on Sundays, Mondays and Thursdays.
Flights will depart Townsville at 7:30am arriving in Rockhampton at 8:30am before departing at 8:50am and arriving Gold Coast at 9:50am.
The return flight would depart Gold Coast at 3:10pm arriving Rockhampton at 4:10pm before departing at 4:30 pm and arriving back in Townsville at 5:30pm.
