Kerrigan Street footpath works complete

Residents may have had to change their walking route slightly over the past couple of months, but can now enjoy a new section of footpath on Kerrigan Street thanks to works finished by Rockhampton Regional Council and funded by the Queensland Government.
The $186,150 project is funded by the State Government’s Works for Queensland Program.
Member for Rockhampton Barry O’Rourke said that in the past three years the $600 million Works for Queensland program had been incredibly successful throughout regional Queensland, delivering more than 19,000 jobs and counting.
"Rockhampton is one of our real success stories, where council has received more than $27.2 million, creating or supporting almost 750 jobs," he said.
Local Government Minister Stirling Hinchliffe said the focus of the jobs-creating program was to boost employment in the regions and to help councils complete projects that would otherwise not get done.
“The completion of these works means a much-improved Kerrigan St footpath and that’s a real win for the residents who use it,” he said.
Rockhampton Region Mayor, Margaret Strelow, said she hoped residents were looking forward to using the new footpath.
“Our teams have been working hard over the past couple of months and have now finished this great project.
“We have installed a new concrete footpath between Moyle Street and Thozet Road, and added ramps at crossings along there too.
“Projects like this wouldn’t be possible without the State Government’s Works for Queensland Program, and here at Rockhampton Regional Council we are very grateful for the funding its provided for this and many other projects throughout the region.”
Rockhampton Regional Council Infrastructure Spokesperson, Councillor Tony Williams, said the work tied together some previous projects.
“This work is particularly great as it links up existing footpaths. We now have a sealed footpath along the full length of Kerrigan Street, all the way from Moore’s Creek Road to Thozet Road, which links to the Thozet Road footpaths too. Perfect for a nice stroll!”
