Kershaw Gardens update

The newly installed electronic playground at Kershaw Gardens has been given the okay to stay in situ.

Rockhampton Region Mayor Margaret Strelow said that priority would be given to the area facing the Bruce Highway and that the swings and play areas may reopen ahead of the rest of Kershaw Gardens.

“We were already planning a very significant redevelopment of this much loved Park. My vision had been Rockhampton as a big backyard with the measurement of success being the number of birthday parties and families using the space on any given weekend,” Mayor Strelow said.

The work of installing sewerage for the new toilet block, barbecue areas and sheltered picnic tables will continue while other investigations are being conducted.

“We expect that the final picture will be more about pockets of the Park that need additional work rather than an across-the-board recapping. There will be a real focus on safety around swings with rubber or synthetic soft fall surfaces rather than sand. This will give additional comfort to parents,” she said.
