Rockhampton Regional Council is encouraging the community to roll up their sleeves, pull on the gloves, boots and hats, and lend a hand to help clean up our Region’s environment by hosting a site this Clean Up Australia Day.

Whether you are part of a community group, or would like to gather some friends and family to do your part, why not host a clean-up site and give your favourite area some TLC?

Waste and Recycling Councillor Shane Latcham said that while there are a few sites registered already, many hands can make light work, when it comes to cleaning up our local environment and waterways.

“Clean Up Australia Day gives us an opportunity as a community to pitch in and help tackle some of those much-loved areas across our community that have been impacted by an accumulation of litter,” Cr Latcham said.

“The benefit here is two-fold as we are not only removing the rubbish, but we are also preventing it from entering our waterways and natural habitats.

“Every little bit counts, which is why we are calling on local residents and community groups register a site today and get involved in this fantastic cause.”

Registration is easy, and all community-based participants receive a free Clean Up kit, containing gloves and bags and other resources, with packs for individuals, families or groups available.

“As an added incentive, the first 20 groups to register a clean-up site by 10 February will receive a BBQ voucher as well as a landfill disposal voucher or, alternatively, a visit from a waste collections truck to their site,” Cr Latcham said.

“I am planning on cleaning up around Moores Creek on Sunday 5 March and am looking forward to helping clean some of our waterways and natural habitats so that they can continue taking care of us for many years to come.”
