Mount Archer Bushfire evac plan

Do you live on Mount Archer or in a neighbouring suburb? Rockhampton Regional Council is currently developing evacuation plans for this area, and is asking for your help.

Chair of the Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) Mayor Margaret Strelow urged residents in Mount Archer, Frenchville, Koongal and Lakes Creek to submit their thoughts in a current survey.

“It will come as no surprise to those residents on Mount Archer and in neighbouring communities that there is a high bushfire risk in this area,” said Mayor Strelow.

“We saw this as recently as September last year when residents were asked by QFES to prepare to leave their homes due to a fire in Mount Archer National Park.

“At the moment, Council is working to develop a bushfire evacuation plan to help ensure that should people ever need to evacuate they are well prepared to do so.

“To make sure this plan is suited to residents in the area, we need a full understanding of how prepared you are, what information you need, and what your household’s bushfire plans are.

“Your responses will then be pooled with expert research and best practice in order to produce an evacuation plan tailored specifically for this community.

“It’s important that we get this plan right, so if you live in the area please take the time to fill in the survey.”

The survey closes on Friday 22 May and is available on Council’s engagement website: https://engage.rockhamptonregion.qld.gov.au/mount-archer-and-frenchville-bushfire-evacuation-planning
