Local contractors at the forefront of building a smart CBD

Council’s focus on ensuring local companies are at the forefront of the CBD and Riverbank Revitalisation continues as three local contractors have today been re-appointed to deliver further smart technologies.
Anderson Consulting Engineers, Pierce Engineering and Stankey Electrics who have already designed, supplied and installed the initial smart technology on Quay Street, will continue to deliver this smart technology throughout our riverbank and the heart of our CBD.
Rockhampton Region Mayor Margaret Strelow said Council has developed a good working relationship with the contractors and is very satisfied with the work that has been completed on Quay Street to date.
“We’re very happy to continue using these three local contractors to deliver the Smart Technology package, and in doing so we continue supporting local jobs,” Mayor Strelow said.
The $4.04million dollar project is a combined State Government and Council funded “Building our Regions” initiative providing smart CCTV cameras, free public Wi-Fi, digital signage for civic announcements, smart light poles with LED lights, wayfinding and built-in speakers, and smart parking sensors to improve parking efficiency.
“Implementing new technologies in the CBD is a key element of Council’s Smart Way Forward Strategy that will enable the Region to become a Smart Regional Centre,” Mayor Strelow said.
“We understand the importance of having the right infrastructure in place to improve our lifestyle and make our Region an attractive place to do business.”
