Love your Library on Valentine’s Day

Celebrate Library Lovers’ Day on Tuesday 14 February by taking a shelfie selfie, joining award-winning author Candice Fox for an inspiring chat, or simply joining your local library!

Rockhampton Regional Council’s Community Services Committee Chair Councillor Rose Swadling said she was looking forward to celebrating all that our libraries offer, particularly in the weeks leading up to Library Lovers’ Day.

“Our libraries are all about discovering, connecting and bringing people of all ages together and what a wonderful opportunity to do exactly that on Valentine’s Day or what we prefer as Library Lovers’ Day,” Cr Swadling said.

“We have some great activities to help celebrate our libraries including an Author Talk with Candice Fox, who recently teamed up with the world’s highest selling author James Patterson, as well as lucky draws for new members and acknowledging our many Library Heroes in the community.

“During February, we’d also love people to take a shelfie selfie in front of our bookshelves, hashtags #LivelyLibraries and #LibraryLove and then go into a draw for some great prizes.

“I’m really encouraging everyone, whether they’re young or young at heart, to get on down to their local library as I’m sure they’ll discover something entertaining and enjoyable, and I guarantee they’ll fall in love with our libraries.”

Author Talk – Crimson Lake by Candice Fox | Rockhampton Regional Library

Join Candice Fox as she chats about her newest book, Crimson Lake, which has a dark humour permeating the pages, and a suffocating, claustrophobic setting in Far North Queensland - with three compelling and linked mysteries for the reader to unravel. Recipient of back-to-back Ned Kelly awards, and nominated for a number of other awards, Candice most recently teamed up with the world’s highest selling thriller author, James Patterson, for Never Never, which was released in August 2016. Lucky Draws

Get a library card - it’s free! During February all Rockhampton Regional Libraries we will have lucky draws for new members to win prize packs. Encourage friends and family to get on board and become a member.

Shelfie Selfie Competition

Love your library? Take a selfie in front of a bookshelf at the library and upload to our library Facebook page during the month of February with the hashtags #LivelyLibraries and #LibraryLove. Need some props? We have an assortment of fun and simple accessories at our Customer Service desk at all libraries.

Serenade someone special

Don’t forget you can also serenade someone using the Hélène Jones piano at Rockhampton Regional Library - what a unique way to make someone feel extra special!
