The Singapura Express makes its way down under with FREE concerts!

Rockhampton Regional Council is inviting the community to experience the vibrant culture of Singapore through a series of free concerts featuring the acclaimed Music and Drama Company (MDC) at the Pilbeam Theatre next week!

Rockhampton Region Mayor Tony Williams said while the Singapore Armed Forces conduct their annual exercise in the Region, the performances offer a unique opportunity to delve into the Singaporean culture at the Singapura Express show.

“Rockhampton Regional Council is excited to welcome back the esteemed Music and Drama Company , showcasing the best of Singaporean talent, and we are proud to announce that admission is free of charge,” Mayor Williams said.

“Rockhampton Region and Singapore have developed strong ties through the Singapore Armed Forces Military Exercises over the last three decades, and the MDC’s visit is testament to the enduring bilateral relationship that we share.”

The Singapura Express is a show audiences won’t want to miss. It’s a vibrant celebration of Singapore’s rich multi-cultural heritage, blending familiar tunes and unique stories in a delightful song and dance performance.

The Music and Drama Company is no stranger to Central Queensland, having performed many times in the region since their first visit in 1996.

Established in 1973 to boost morale of the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) soldiers through live entertainment, many of its members are made up of personnel who are currently serving or are past national service personnel.

Today, MDC is a multi-disciplinary entertainment body based in Singapore and is made up of 62 people including more than 40 performers, with 24 members currently national service personnel.

“The Singapura Express is a fantastic opportunity for residents and visitors to experience Singaporean culture, and Council is extremely proud to be support make this experience accessible for everyone with free admission across four concerts,” Mayor Williams said.

Dominic Chin, who initially served in MDC as part of his national service is a full-time artist with the company and said the show promises to be a crowd pleaser.

"We've heard so much about previous Music & Drama Company concerts in Rockhampton and we are so stoked to bring a brand-new spectacular show to town once again,” he said.

“Featuring dazzling multicultural items and familiar tunes, it is going to be an amazing time for all. It's been an adventure prepping things so far, and it is going to be so worth it to see all the smiles during the concert. 

The Singapura Express will be performed at the Pilbeam Theatre on Monday 11 November at 11am and 7pm and Tuesday 12 November at 11am and 7pm. Admission is free but everyone attending must have a ticket as the venue has allocated seating.
