Rockhampton Regional Council has announced the successful applicants for Round 2 of this year’s Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF).
The successful applicants are: Capricornia Silver Band and local writer Jodie Van De Wetering.
These were selected by the Rockhampton RADF committee, made of local arts industry professionals, chaired by Rockhampton Region Deputy Mayor, Cr Drew Wickerson.
Funded Projects are:
Capricornia Silver Band
$2567.50 To support youth members of the orchestra to attend the 2025 Queensland Band Association Youth Band Development Camp. This is an opportunity for young players to learn from some of the best musical directors in and brass / percussionist instrumentalist tutors in Australia and develop skills to bring back to Rockhampton region.
Jodie Van De Wetering
$2120 to support a rehearsed public reading of selected scenes from a play-in-development about Rockhampton’s larger than life Mayor, Rex Pilbeam. The reading will elicit both performer and audience feedback on the work-in-progress, contributing towards ongoing creative development of the play.
RADF is delivered as a partnership between the Queensland Government through Arts Queensland and the Rockhampton Regional Council to promote local arts and culture in regional Queensland.
Rockhampton Regional Council Communities, Culture and Heritage Portfolio spokesperson Cr Drew Wickerson congratulated the applicants.
“I am very pleased to announce this round’s successful applicants,” he said.
“The successful applicants in this round are broadly categorised as ‘development grants’.
“Development grants are an important part of what RADF does. Perhaps contrary to what some may think, not every RADF application is about staging a show or an exhibition.
“In these projects, RADF is investing in the development of the skills of our young musicians, and in the development of a local play about long serving Rockhampton Mayor Rex Pilbeam.
“RADF is a grass roots funding program which aims to assist projects that are important to the local community,” he said.
The next RADF round will be held early in 2025. More information www.rockhamptonregion.qld.gov.au/RADF
