A delegation from South Korea’s Our Home Company, a catering subsidiary to the LG Group, has made an exclusive visit to the Region this week to explore the potential to establish an agricultural business.

Our Home focuses on four main business areas including food manufacturing, food services and catering, hospitality, and food materials and supply.

It also has one of the highest recognised food brands in South Korea with an annual turnover of AUD $1.5 billion.

Rockhampton Region Mayor Margaret Strelow said Council’s Economic Development team hosted the delegation of two Directors, an Associate Director and Project Officer from the Our Home Company since Monday.

“This is a very positive visit from a company that is genuinely interested in our Region as a place for trade and investment in cattle and poultry products,” Mayor Strelow said.

“One of our greatest advantages is our location for overseas investors, such as Our Home, who are considering the option to either establish a business or partner with local businesses and export our produce back to their homeland to be incorporated into their own food production and catering lines.”

Their visit to the Region comes after more than 22.5 million poultry were reportedly killed amid the worst bird flu epidemic in farms across South Korea since December 2016.

Council’s General Manager of Regional Development and Aviation, Scott Waters,  said the company places a high importance on hygienic standards, freshness, stability of business and supply of good quality poultry meat.

“During the week, the delegation has visited a feedlot, cattle and chicken farms, Teys meatworks and also met with professional services and with government agencies,” Mr Waters said.

“So far they are pleased as they can clearly see our Region’s competitive advantages and how they can use them to maximise their business interest.

“The Our Home delegation will further discuss their visit with their senior management upon their return to Korea and we are very much looking forward to seeing what the outcome of their visit will be.”
