Make the most of what you have this festive season

For some Rockhampton Region residents the festive season is anything but a time to celebrate especially with the impacts of Tropical Cyclone Marcia still being felt, and even recently yesterday’s damaging storm.

Rockhampton Region Mayor Margaret Strelow is encouraging residents to look onwards and upwards from here on in and enjoy what we have this Christmas Season.

“Experts advise that when enduring a significant event like TC Marcia, the adrenaline gets us through the following months,” Mayor Strelow said.

“Around now, the adrenaline is over, and it’s perfectly normal for us to feel low, especially as we head into the Christmas season and things aren’t exactly back to where they were last year.

“If you’re feeling exhausted or flat as a result, don’t be surprised.

“With a traumatic event such as Marcia, many of us are facing the impacts for a very long time afterwards and the experts tell us around about now, is when we are at our lowest after a disaster.”

“For those who know of others that will be less fortunate this Christmas, I encourage you to dig deep and continue the same giving spirit we witnessed after the Cyclone.

“An act of generosity this Christmas may make the world of difference to one family.”

For some people the distress may persist and cause health problems such as depression and other anxiety disorders. If you or someone you know is not coping, contact BeyondBlue for support on 1300 22 46 36 or visit www.beyondblue.org.au.
