Mark the 2020 sustainability workshops in your calendar!
Published on 17 January 2020
Are you looking for ways to introduce some more eco-friendly habits in your household? Come along to one of the free, family-friendly sustainability workshops planned for this year!
Council’s Environment Spokesperson Councillor Drew Wickerson said the workshops proved very popular with the community in 2019, and he’s excited to see what’s on offer in 2020.
“The start of a new year is always a great time to take a look at your lifestyle and see what habits you’d like to improve,” said Cr Wickerson,
“If you’re interested in making some more sustainable choices in your household this year, these monthly hands-on workshops are a great place to start.
“Hosted by Council’s fantastic Environment and Sustainability Unit along with wonderful local community partners, this series of Sustainability in Action workshops are designed to provide participants with simple ways to make more sustainable choices every day.
“For example our first workshop, which is coming up at the Southside Library this Saturday, will look at ways that you can fight food waste at home and includes live food rescue cooking demonstrations and taste testing.
“Throughout the year the workshops will explore a range of other sustainability topics, including ways to be more energy efficient, growing your own food, building habitat for wildlife, and being more water wise - just to name a few.
“The 2020 program follows on from the incredibly popular Living Sustainably workshops hosted last year. In 2019 we had over 1200 participants across a range of hands-on workshops come along and learn ways to adopt more sustainable habits.”
“Workshop spots fill quickly, so if there’s one you’re hoping to catch this year make sure to get in early!”
