Mary Poppins Cast announced

If the auditions are anything to go by, Rockhampton Regional Council’s 2016 musical Mary Poppins is going to be big!

After auditioning more than 140 hopefuls, the leads of the musical has been announced:

Aleah Dillon as Mary
Joel Duffy as Bert
Brad Villiers as Mr Banks
Amanda Hock as Mrs Banks
Maddison Scharer and Ella Kibblewhite-Claus  sharing the role of Jane
Luca Mella and Nick Smith sharing the role of Michael

Director of the show, Wayne Scott Kermond, said that the response to the auditions was “overwhelming”.

“The theatre had to extend the number of audition places not once but twice to accommodate demand,” Mr Kermond said.

“Mary Poppins is a great musical to be part of because it has roles for both adults and children and it is a musical that everyone knows and loves,” I am looking forward to working with this great cast and local creative team to create something very special for the Pilbeam Theatre stage,” Wayne said.

The musical is based on the books by PL Travers and the Disney Movie. It features the songs from the Disney movie and some new ones.

Chair of Rockhampton Regional Council’s Communities Committee, Cr Rose Swadling congratulated those who were selected to be in the show.

“I am very proud of the fact that Rockhampton Region has the talent to produce such great annual musicals. Mary Poppins is a great show for the whole family and I am sure the region will support it wholeheartedly,” she said.

“The overwhelming number of auditionees is testament to the high regard in which  Rockhampton performers hold  the opportunity to work with industry professionals to create a top quality musical,” she said.
