Rockhampton Region Mayor Margaret Strelow has congratulated the CQUniversity students who graduated in Rockhampton on Tuesday.
"Congratulations to our 270 graduates who have worked so hard and dedicated years of study towards their degrees," Mayor Strelow said.
"It's very exciting to see so many students graduate across a broad range of professions; this is truly a testament to not only the students but also to CQUniversity for offering an extensive range of programs right here on our doorstep.”
With graduates now on the hunt for jobs in their chosen profession, Mayor Strelow says she is not opposed to seeing graduates leave the Region in the hopes they will one day return.
"To increase our Region's competitive advantage we want to see our youth go to other places and eventually bring their ideas and skills back to Rockhampton,” she said.
“We have a wealth of diverse industries here and to support these industries we need to broaden our skills base.”
Mayor Strelow also added that Council is searching for entrepreneurs to take advantage of the Smart Regional Centre plan that was launched on Tuesday.
“We also encourage any students and graduates who are considering starting a businesses to contact Council so we can see how they will benefit from our Smart Regional Centre Strategy that supports new business ideas,” she said.
