Local performers to have opportunity to star in Morning Melodies

The Pilbeam Theatre is seeking Expressions of Interest from local performers for the 2025 season of the long-running seniors concert series, Morning Melodies.

The concert series, which began in the late 1980s, has entertained thousands of Central Queensland seniors over the years with mostly touring performers on stage.

Now locals will get their chance to shine.

Cr Drew Wickerson, Rockhampton Regional Council Arts and Heritage spokesperson, said that the time was right to see what local performers had to offer Morning Melodies.

“We’ve seen some great touring acts at Morning Melodies over the years, but there are a lot of talented local performers who, I am sure, could provide a great show for Morning Melodies audiences.

“Council is seeking Expressions of Interest from entertainers to create and perform their own show, within some guidelines set out in the EOI,” he said.

“If that’s you, we’d like to hear from you,” he said.

Morning Melodies concerts are usually between 70-90 minutes duration and are held 5-6 times per year at the Pilbeam Theatre, with a different artist each time. Performance fees will be negotiated.

Last year, the Pilbeam Theatre trialled a concert which was conceived and performed by local Amanda Hock.

“Amanda’s performance, a Dusty Springfield tribute, was very well received, and we know that there are a great many other performers out there who would love this opportunity.

“Not only is this great for local performers, but I am sure that audiences will give the shows their full support.

“I would like to encourage local performers to have a look at the information and submit an EOI,” Cr Wickerson said.

Expressions of Interest are now available at www.seeitlive.com.au/MorningMelodiesEOI and will close on Friday 14 June 2024.

The Pilbeam Theatre is owned and operated by Rockhampton Regional Council.
