Mount Archer canopy walk opens

A new side of Rockhampton is set to be unveiled in time for Easter with residents and visitors able to take in breathtaking views with the opening of the first stage of Mount Archer’s new canopy walk.
Keppel MP Brittany Lauga today joined Mayor Strelow and Councillors for the very first tour of the first stage of the $750,000 project which is funded by the Queensland Government.
“This is a fantastic experience, to be able to see so much of our Region among the tree tops of Mount Archer with interpretive signage on our Darumbal culture guiding you along the circuit - this is the perfect place to really appreciate and capture the beauty of our landscape,” Mrs Lauga said.
“This is also a very proud moment to see another exciting project completed on Mount Archer thanks to the Palaszczuk Government’s commitment of $300,000 from the Works for Queensland program as well as $450,000 from the Department of Environment and Science.”
The circuit extends 25 meters outward and 7.5 metres high. Works on the second stage of the project will commence shortly and Rockhampton Region Mayor Margaret Strelow said the completion of the first stage comes at a perfect time with the opening coinciding with Easter Holidays.
“This has been a project enthusiastically embraced by all of the councillors and so it is fitting we are here together today,” Mayor Strelow said.
“The past six months have been extraordinary for our Region with the opening of so many projects through the Works for Queensland funding package, including Cedric Archer Park water play, the North Rockhampton Waterslides, Mount Morgan’s CBD Streetscape and now Mount Archer’s Nurim Circuit, giving our residents and visitors yet another exceptional experience in our Region.
“As we tick off many of the projects within our Mount Archer Activation Master Plan, we are beginning to unlock the tourism potential of this beautiful asset in the heart of our Region.
“This would not have been achievable without the strong support from both the State and Australian Governments.”
Further stages of the Fraser Park Redevelopment recently received another funding boost thanks to the Australian Government’s $1.5million contribution announced by Capricornia MP Michelle Landry earlier this month.
The canopy walk will be open to the public from this Thursday afternoon, 29 March.
