A stunning new amphitheatre on Mount Archer has been revealed today as the latest addition to Council’s masterplan to revive the Region’s mountaintop sanctuary.

The amphitheatre has created a new space to enjoy sweeping panoramic views, and seats over 200 people on locally sourced sandstone with an elevated grassed stage, making it perfect for concerts, events and weddings.

The amphitheatre is part of the Fraser Park Redevelopment and was jointly funded with $400,000 from the State Government and $70,000 from Council.

Member for Keppel and Assistant Education Minister Brittany Lauga said the Palaszczuk Government committed $400,000 at the 2017 State election towards the construction of the amphitheatre at Fraser Park.

“I congratulate the council for its commitment to this redevelopment that is activating Mount Archer and capitalising on Rockhampton’s natural assets,” Mrs Lauga said.

“The Mount Archer Fraser Park area is a wonderfully beautiful and functional area to be enjoyed by everyone, and I’m proud to have been part of creating a lasting legacy for future generations.”

Rockhampton Region Mayor Margaret Strelow said the construction of the amphitheatre has significantly enhanced the useable space of Fraser Park.

“Fraser Park is one of the most spectacular vantage points in our Region, and with the two new elevated boardwalks proving to be hugely popular, I have no doubt that the amphitheatre will be loved and well used for many different occasions,” Mayor Strelow said.

“I’d like to thank the State Government and Brittany for their contribution toward improving the amenity at Fraser Park – investment in enhancing our natural assets like this goes a long way.

“There are still more works to come including new pathways connecting the amphitheatre to the boardwalk as well as a small nature play area with a slide, swing, trampoline and climbing logs, which has been funded by the federal government.”

While remediation works to improve the safety of Pilbeam Drive are still underway, Mount Archer is currently closed to public traffic and will re-open on weekends during the school holidays.

Pilbeam Drive is expected to completely re-open at the end of May along with a new car park that was recently constructed under the State Government’s Works For Queensland program.
