Mount Morgan’s Welfare House and Sport precinct get new facelift

Mount Morgan’s beautiful Welfare House has received a major facelift in order to restore the heritage building to its former glory.
Re-painting the interior and exterior of the building, new guttering and veranda floors have given the building a new lease of life as a result of $153,000 in funding from the Queensland Government’s Works for Queensland program. Meanwhile, the program also contributed $100,000 towards amenity upgrades at the Boyd Park Sport Precinct which included the construction of a brand new, all accessible, toilet along with a disability car park and footpath.
Acting Mayor Councillor Tony Williams said the opportunity to improve these facilities and preserve the heritage of Welfare House was only possible through the Works for Queensland Program.
“Welfare House has been in desperate need of a facelift and restoration for some time now, and by the same token, providing disabled toilets at a Boyd Park sports precinct is also an essential service that I am pleased we have now made available to people who use these facilities,” Cr Williams said.
“This has been a great program to bring forward projects that Council could not fund in our current financial budget, so to see these improvements complete is a real bonus for us and the community as it means this money saved can be put towards delivering other projects for our community.”
