Let’s celebrate “water – life – growth” this week
Published on 17 October 2016
It’s National Water Week and Fitzroy River Water (FRW) is encouraging everybody to think carefully about the importance of water in their daily lives.
National Water Week (16 – 22 October) is an annual awareness week inspiring individuals, communities and organisations to work together to build community awareness of water issues.
Council’s Water Committee Chair Councillor Neil Fisher said FRW provided “life” to the community by working 24 hours a day to deliver safe and reliable drinking water.
“Water plays a large role in our lives and is something we use every day whether it be to hydrate ourselves, to shower, keep plants alive, or wash the dishes,” Cr Fisher said.
“Our industries also rely on water to grow our food and livestock, and our environment needs it to remain healthy.
“The best way to ensure we continue to grow and have life in the future is to be water wise today and to appreciate our water.
FRW operates two water treatment plants in Parkhurst and Mount Morgan whereby water is sourced and treated from the Fitzroy River Barrage and the Mount Morgan No. 7 Dam.
Cr Fisher said that the primary supply of water for our Region was the Fitzroy River Barrage which had a storage volume of 74,400 megalitres.
“We are so lucky to live in an area that has access to such a large and secure water storage. We need to treat it with respect and ensure its longevity.
“We can all play our part in achieving life and growth by saving our water and using it wisely into the future,” he said.
