New garden to remember loved ones

Families across the region have a new peaceful setting in which to remember their loved ones as the Ashes Garden, a Rockhampton Regional Council project, opens in Gracemere today.
Chair of Council’s Parks Committee, Councillor Cherie Rutherford, said the Ashes Garden was a beautiful addition to Gracemere Cemetery.
“For many of us, death is a topic we avoid most of the time.
“However, when our loved ones do pass away it is vital that we have somewhere beautiful and peaceful to commemorate them.
“The Ashes Garden includes new trees, seating, pathways, a shelter, and plants, creating a peaceful space.
“Our team at Council has shown real love, care and concern in the creation of this space, and I want to commend them for that.
“I am proud that we as a Council have been able to invest in, and create, an important area that will make a real difference to people during difficult times.”
Divisional Councillor Ellen Smith said the new gardens would make a real difference.
“Having this place will be such a comfort to not only the people of Gracemere, but for people from all across our region.
“It really is a beautiful setting, and will allow for peaceful reflection and remembrance.”
The gardens were designed by Council’s Landscape Architect. The project cost $350,000.
