Development rolls on in Rockhampton Region

A flurry of Development Applications has been lodged for the Region over the past month, as developers take advantage of Council’s current reduced infrastructure charges.

Mayor Margaret Strelow said applications had increased almost threefold from September to October.

“Of course that has come off a low base, from 6 applications up to 17 applications, but it is really good to see that the development industry are taking advantage of the concession we currently have in place and that there are some good applications being lodged,” Mayor Strelow said.

“Some of the applications include an extension to an educational establishment, a medium impact industry in Gracemere and landscaping for stage 3 of a large residential development.”

The infrastructure concessions for commercial uses see a 50 per cent reduction for areas outside the CDB area, as well as a 100 per cent reduction for areas within the CDB precinct. There’s also a full refund on application fees.

Mayor Strelow said that Council will consider whether to extend the current concession at next week’s Council meeting. She is anticipating a strong support for the extension from Councillors.
