Rockhampton Regional Council has given the green light to its Sustainability Strategy (Towards 2030).
Water and Environmental Sustainability Councillor Donna Kirkland said the revised Strategy was another important step towards ensuring a more sustainable future for the region.
“The Sustainability Strategy (Towards 2030) was designed with support from our community and stakeholders to strengthen our community, environmental, and economic resilience,” Cr Kirkland said.
“The Strategy builds on the good work that is already happening and better aligns us with policy changes happening across all levels of government.
“We’ve gained some great momentum in sustainability over the last five years including initiatives in waste diversion, water infrastructure, renewable energy, biodiversity protection, and active transport.
“As we move towards 2030, the Strategy will help to lead our community by example and position us for the challenges and opportunities we face.
“The year ahead will see us implementing sustainability improvements within planned infrastructure upgrades, community programs and on-ground works, as well as driving a range of solar energy, circular economy and emission reduction projects.
“Together with our local residents, communities, businesses, industries and other levels of government, we’re excited about the opportunity to position our Region to prosper both now and into the future!”
