Passenger numbers sky high at Rockhampton Airport

Rockhampton Regional Airport has registered an increase of more than 5.5 per cent in visitors over March quarter.

The monthly operational figures show more visitors are flying in and out of the beef capital and Chair of the Airport Committee Councillor Neil Fisher said the increase in passengers was welcome news for a range of sectors.

“Our fantastic airport has the capacity to accommodate extra visitors and it’s incredibly pleasing to see that visitor numbers are up by 5.53 per cent for the March quarter,” Cr Fisher said.

“More people going through our airport is good for the entire city because it’s more visitors, more people shopping locally, eating at our restaurants and spending in our local economy.

“We’ve just seen JetGo announce a new winter service to Albury starting next month and all the signs are pointing to increased confidence in Rockhampton and we’ll be looking to capitalise on that momentum to drive visitor numbers and economic growth,” Cr Fisher said.

General Manager of Aviation and Regional Development said the increased passengers were in part due to the efforts of the airport’s excellent staff.

“Aside from Rockhampton’s reputation continuing to increase in the wider community our airport is also going from strength to strength and we are seeing that reflected in the increased passenger numbers,” Mr Waters said.
