Planning Scheme amendment submitted for approval

Rockhampton Regional Council this week reached the next stage in making necessary changes to the planning scheme, endorsing an updated scheme for State Government approval.

Planning and Regulation Councillor Grant Mathers said that the focus of this amendment addresses with inconsistencies regarding the interpretation of the planning scheme and promote new opportunities for businesses and individuals.

“These amendments were presented to the community following a community consultation held throughout January and February this year,” Cr Mathers said.

“Community consultation is an important and valuable part of the process of amending the Planning Scheme.

“We are always keen to hear what individuals, community groups, business, and developers in our region have to say about these changes.

“During this consultation process we received and provided responses to six submissions, and we want to thank those who took the time to have their say.”

A summary of the major changes to the planning scheme include:

  • Allow for home-based business in the Industry zones for existing houses
  • Provide further clarification to the Industrial use definitions
  • Update terminology in the Bushfire Code to align with State Guidance material
  • Amend subdivision provisions to align with mandatory state regulations
  • Amend inconsistencies in regard to interpretation of the planning scheme
  • Multiple zone, overlay and strategic mapping changes
  • Extension of multiple properties protected in Stage 2 of the North Rockhampton Flood Management Area (NRFMA) due to increased mitigation methods (updated flood hazard mapping).

The Planning Scheme Major Amendments Version 3 will be submitted the State Government and Council will formally request approval to adopt the major amendments.
