Proposed Planning Scheme proceeds to final review

Published on 29 January 2015

After careful consideration, Council has resolved to send the proposed Rockhampton Region Planning Scheme for final Ministerial review and to proceed with mailing out responses to the 637 public submissions received during community consultation in the coming month.

Council’s Planning and Development Committee Chair, Rockhampton Region Mayor Margaret Strelow said the outcome marked significant progress towards the adoption of the new Planning Scheme, enabling us to move forward on many fronts.

“I’m delighted that Council has agreed to proceed with sending the proposed Planning Scheme, including the adopted changes made as a result of the public submissions, to the Minister for State Development, Infrastructure and Planning for a final review,” Mayor Strelow said.

The purpose of the final Ministerial review is to:

  • Ensure the changes made accord with state priorities and do not impact on any state interests
  • Review the significance and potential impact of all changes
  • Act as a final review before Council can formally adopt the proposed Planning Scheme.

Mayor Strelow said the decision also meant that Council could now finalise the formal responses to the 637 submissions received during the community consultation in 2014.

“We know that many people are eagerly waiting to see how we may have incorporated their feedback and suggestions into the proposed Planning Scheme. You can expect to receive your letter response at the end of February.

“A summary report, prepared as part of the Ministerial review, outlines our responses to a number of the more significant or commonly raised issues by the community and will be made available on Council’s website in conjunction with the release of the letters,” she said.
