RACQ Get Ready Week 2016
Published on 10 October 2016
Hurricane Matthew has put natural disasters firmly in the spotlight around the world last week, while back home our New South Wales and Victorian neighbours are battling through storm cells and flooding.
The trail of destruction and loss these disasters have caused are timely reminders of the devastation that Mother Nature can wreak.
Now Rockhampton residents are being encouraged to ensure they are ready for the wet season.
This week is Get Ready Week– a State initiative encouraging residents to prepare for disasters.
From the 10 – 16th October, Rockhampton Regional Council will be out and about in local shopping centres providing information to the community about disaster preparedness.
Rockhampton Regional Council Local Disaster Management Group Chair and Councillor Tony Williams has urged residents to start thinking about what they’d do in a disaster.
“This month marks the beginning of the wet season, so we need to do as much as we can to be prepared should an extreme weather event hit our region, as it has done in the past.
“We would like to distil the ‘it won’t happen to me’ mentality and get people to think seriously about where they’d go, what they’d do and how they’ve survive through a disaster,” he said.
The community is invited to visit one of the information stands listed below to find out more about being prepared in a disaster.
