Reconstruction of Pilbeam Drive progresses

Published on 06 May 2016

Reconstruction works are moving onward and upward at Mount Archer’s Pilbeam Drive.

Today Chair of Council’s Infrastructure Committee Cr Tony Williams gave an update on the multimillion dollar project.

“We are very pleased with how well works are progressing at Pilbeam Drive,” Cr Williams said.

“At present, crews are working on the repair of the two main slip sites. The works currently involve re-establishing the embankment so that the road can be reopened to two- way traffic.”

Cr Williams said work is also continuing on stabilising the slopes and upgrading the drainage to help prevent future slips in these areas.

“The work on these two slips is due to be completed in June and work on repairing damage to the road in the other locations will commence this month,” he said.

“Overall, we are on track and still expecting to have the full project completed by August, 2016.”

Division 2 Councillor Neil Fisher said a sincere thanks goes to the local community for their continued support and assistance.

“These works have required the closure of the site and while this has been done to ensure the community’s safety, we understand that the limited road access has been an inconvenience,” Cr Fisher said.

“The continued support of the local residents at Mount Archer and the community as a whole has really helped with this project and we sincerely thank all for their understanding.”

The upgrade is valued at $4.7 million and is supported by the State and Federal Government under the Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements (NDRRA) - Category B and D.
