An innovative new web-based feature is making it easier than ever for Rockhampton Region residents to access information on how to recycle and reduce the waste they send to landfill.

Council today announced its collaboration with Recycle Mate to help residents to recycle right and find correct disposal options available across the Region.

Waste and Recycling Councillor Shane Latcham said the launch of Recycle Mate is a perfect way to kick off National Recycling Week and represents a crucial step forward in empowering our local community with the knowledge and resources to make informed recycling decisions.

“Recycle Mate is an initiative of the Australian recycling industry to bring free interactive resources to every local council, recycler, product stewardship scheme and charity to get involved and promote their initiatives,” Cr Latcham said.

“We know it is important to make it easy for residents to check what items can be placed in their household recycling bins.

“This game-changing collaboration makes it possible for our residents to simply go to Council’s website, search the name of an item they would like to know what to do with and Recycle Mate will provide the best disposal option.

“Recycle Mate provides detailed recycling information at a click of a button, and includes convenient search and map features, where users can locate nearby community recycling drop-off locations for items they no longer need.

“Plus, there’s an app for that! Rockhampton Region residents can also download the free Recycle Mate App on their devices.

“The Recycle Mate app even has extra features where residents can snap a photo of an item to find out the best disposal option, which further encourages correct recycling practices.

“Finding out how to get your recycling sorted has never been easier with Recycle Mate and we encourage each member of our community to check out this fantastic resource and play an active role in getting our waste sorted.

“By recycling right, we hope to increase resource recovery, help build a local circular economy and move towards a zero waste community together.”

Search Recycle Mate on Rockhampton Regional Council's website on the Sort my Waste page or the Recycle Mate app is free to download from the Apple or Google Play store.
