Recycling gets refreshed with new look campaign

What goes around comes around.
It’s an adage that’s at the very heart of recycling, and it only seems natural it’s also ringing true for a local recycling campaign.
Six years after its official launch, “the Recycling Heroes” campaign is continuing to evolve and now takes on a new and exciting, animated look.
Rockhampton Regional Waste and Recycling officially launched the new look campaign this week as part of National Recycling Week.
The refresh introduces five animated recycling heroes, based upon the original and local stars of the earlier campaign.
Chair of Council’s Waste Committee Cr Neil Fisher said the refresh will be presented in a range of ways over the upcoming weeks.
“The continued roll out of this campaign and its refresh is something we are very excited about,” Cr Fisher said.
“The new look heroes are going to be popping up all over the place and the first appearance will be the annual community calendar which is out as of this Thursday.
“It’s going to be a great way to engage our young locals and further presents opportunities to promote the benefits of recycling and being a recycling hero in your own way.”
The heroes will also be featured in comic strips, school book stickers, advertisements and collect-a-cards; each focusing on the benefits of doing the right thing and using the right bin.
“Glass Girl; Ali Minium; Mr Fantastic Plastic 7; Professor Paper and Steel make up the Recycling Heroes squad,” Cr Fisher said.
“Together the heroes work to provide safe passage for the recyclables to yellow lid bins, and out of the grasps of from their arch enemy – “Contamination”.”
An original Recycling Hero, Billie Muller had a sneak peak of the heroes this week, including the hero she was the inspiration for.
“Glass Girl looks fun and vibrant,” Billie said.
“My first impression is that it is really exciting to be rebooting the characters in a way that will appeal to younger age groups.”
