Repair works for failed McLeod Park lights now underway

McLeod Park, Berserker will be closed to the public from today as repair works get underway to replace the field lighting which has reached its end of life.

Parks, Sport and Public Spaces Councillor Cherie Rutherford said the lighting is scheduled to be switched back on by December for local sporting clubs and groups to resume their night time activities.  

“McLeod Park serves an important role as an additional field for local sports teams to practice and compete when their primary fields are undergoing upgrades or maintenance or when there is a heightened demand due to a high volume of events in the Region,” Cr Rutherford said.

“Due to the failure of the lights, night time use of McLeod Park has ceased and Council is keen to see the lighting replaced to ensure continued support for our local sports and recreational activities.

“These long-term benefits far outweigh the short-term inconveniences, and we will work with local clubs for alternatives during the closure when required,” Cr Rutherford

“Once the lighting upgrade is complete, we look forward to seeing McLeod Park fully utilised, and I would like to thank the local sporting groups for their patience and understanding.”

Divisional Councillor Grant Mathers said the works will include extensive underground electrical upgrades necessary for the installation of new LED lights, triggering a full closure of the park for community safety.

“To ensure the safety of the public, the park is now completely closed off while these works are carried out,” Cr Mathers said.  

“McLeod Park is great place for local residents and families to walk, run, ride a bike, or simply spend quality time outdoors and through this lighting upgrade Council can ensure the park remains a safe and welcoming space for everyone.”

The construction timeline is subject to ground and weather conditions.
