Advance Rockhampton have revealed a new addition to this year’s Rockhampton River Festival (River Fest) with the new ‘Art’s on the Fringe’ program set to activate the Walter Reid Cultural Centre throughout the Festival.

Arts on the Fringe will bring together local talent and community spirit through a series of interactive arts and crafts workshops, as well as captivating musical performances and engaging short films. It will kick off on Friday 26 July with the highly anticipated exhibition ‘On The Edge’ hosted by CQ Contemporary Artists, and will run for the duration of River Fest.

Rockhampton Region Mayor Tony Williams said this is an exciting and vibrant addition to the River Fest program, celebrating our local art and music talent.

“Festival goers will be able to get involved in various arts and crafts activities including screen print and pottery demonstrations, bunting flag workshops, come and see live train models and purchase their own River Fest 10th Anniversary collectable tote bag or greeting card,” Mayor Williams said.

“With the support from our sponsor Stanwell, Arts on the Fringe is set to become a significant highlight to this year’s River Fest, promising to enrich the arts, cultural and entertainment landscape of the event.”

Stanwell General Manager Angie Zahra said that Stanwell will also be running art workshops for all ages in the Market Village precinct of the Festival.

“We are excited to be part of the inaugural Arts on the Fringe program at River Fest and eager to support creative bright sparks in our community,” Ms Zahra said.

The Rockhampton Youth Orchestra, along with CQ Strings and the Rockhampton Symphony Jazz Orchestra are also set to shine at the Walter Reid Cultural Centre Auditorium during the Arts on the Fringe program.

President of the Rockhampton Youth Orchestra Ivan Richardson expressed his enthusiasm for the Arts on the Fringe program, highlighting its role in bringing the community together through music.

"The Rockhampton Youth Orchestra is dedicated to nurturing young musical talent within the community and we are thrilled to be part of River Fest this year," said Ivan Richardson.

“The students are very eager and have been hard at work rehearsing in the lead up to the event.”

“From classical ballads to popular jazz classics, our lineup promises to captivate audiences of all ages. Whether you're a connoisseur of the arts or simply love listening to the wonders of music, guests will have an unforgettable experience at the Walter Reid Cultural Centre Auditorium.”

All three performances are ticketed, with proceeds supporting the continuous development of our not-for-profit group.
