A little more speed will be seen in 2022 with the Rockhampton Saloon Car Club hosting the SSA Super Sedan State Title at the Rockhampton Showgrounds from the 13th to 14th of May.

This week council announced that the Rockhampton Saloon Car Club was the recipient of a $3,000 Community Assistance Program Grant that will assist them in hosting the State Title.

Communities and Heritage Councillor Drew Wickerson said Council is excited to support the local club and see a State Title hosted right here in Rockhampton.

“The Community Assistance Program is all about supporting local groups, events, and initiatives which benefit our community, and this event does just that,” Councillor Wickerson said.

“This event creates the opportunity for the Saloon Car Club to be awarded national titles in the future, as well as showcase our world-class facility.

“Not only does this grant assist the Rockhampton Saloon Car Club with their event, but it will create a positive flow-on effect and allow involvement from all community sectors whilst benefiting the Region.

Our Region will receive positive economic benefits as a result of this event, with the State Title expected to attract total nominations over all divisions of 100 participants with at least 50 of these participants being from outside of the Rockhampton Region.

“We are expecting over 1600 attendees across the two day event with at least 400 being from outside the region requiring three nights’ accommodation.

“It is fantastic to see the positive economic impact this event will have, and I am looking forward to seeing many more similar events happen in our Region.

Club president Daniel Pearce said the Rockhampton Saloon Car Club are thrilled to receive this community assistance grant for the upcoming SSA Super Sedan QLD Title.

“Funding like this is vital in ensuring our club and sport stay viable and allows us to bring big shows like this title to town for the community to enjoy and benefit from,” Mr Pearce said.

“This funding will support us in putting on this event to ensure we are able to keep our admission prices affordable so that as many people can attend the event as possible - we pride ourselves on being Rocky’s best value family night out.

“The title is sure to excite, and we are expecting several interstate drivers to make the trek as the Super Sedans will complete their series round on Friday night, the 13th of May and the title held on Saturday night, the 14th of May.

“We look forward to seeing you all there. More information will be released closer to the event via Rockhampton Speedway’s Facebook page and website.
