Rockhampton Airport has reopened this morning and, in an added bonus for travellers over Easter, has announced that full passenger operations are up and running – including night time services.
Chair of the Airport Committee Neil Fisher said airport staff had worked tirelessly throughout the night to ensure the runway lighting was ready to go from this afternoon.
“We had expected to be operating during daylight only over Easter as the lighting system had been damaged during the flood event, but thanks to the hard work of airport staff and electricians, night time services will be able to operate from tonight,” Cr Fisher said.
“This is fantastic news for passengers over Easter and really does highlight that Rockhampton is open for business, the weather is beautiful and there’s plenty on around the region for tourists.
“The airlines have been told that night time operations are now in effect and we will soon see a full return to service at the airport. While that is occurring, passengers should continue to check with the airline in the first instance for flight information,” Cr Fisher said.
