Rockhampton region lights up this festive season!
Published on 13 December 2022
Rockhampton is coming to life with festive cheer as residents put their homes on show for locals and tourists to join in their seasonal celebrations. Hundreds of homeowners in the region have worked tirelessly to create eye-catching and magical light show displays, which have started drawing crowds from far and wide.
The team at Advance Rockhampton have captured a handful of the most spectacular Christmas light displays throughout the region, including the iconic Christmas tree on Quay Street, which you can do as a self-guided tour in the Explore Rockhampton app.
For the die-hard Christmas light fans, Rockhampton Regional Council’s Advance Rockhampton have partnered with 4RO and Triple M to bring you a full map of Christmas light displays in the region, so you can capture every single one of them.
The sparkles will continue right through to New Year’s Eve as Advance Rockhampton “Light Up the Sky” with Triple M and bring in 2023 with a fireworks spectacular. The Riverside precinct will come alive with food vendors and amusement rides, plus a fireworks display at 7.30pm igniting the skies above the Fitzroy River (Tunuba), with a second display at midnight to bring in the New Year.
Rockhampton Region Mayor Tony Williams said it was wonderful to see our community getting into the Christmas spirit and it is always exciting to see the Riverside Precinct buzzing with activity as it will again on New Year’s Eve.
“We all know fireworks are a really special part of the traditional New Year’s Eve celebrations and having a display at both midnight and 7.30pm will allow families to come and enjoy the event with their children and the party goers to continue into the night,” Mayor Williams said.
Advance Rockhampton Executive Manager Greg Bowden said activating our public spaces at this time of year is invaluable for our local businesses and our visitor economy.
“Rockhampton residents are choosing to stay and spend their money locally during the festive season, as well as showing their visiting friends and family what our wonderful region has to offer,” Mr Bowden said.
The Christmas Lights Highlight Tour is available on the Explore Rockhampton Self-Guided Tour app, which you can download by visiting https://qrco.de/bd7V5P.
