Rockhampton takes flight with QANTAS namesake

Rockhampton is taking to the skies – literally – with QANTAS today announcing one of their turboprop planes has been named in honour of the Region.
Airport Committee Chair Councillor Neil Fisher welcomed the announcement and said it was a sign of the strong relationship Rockhampton enjoyed with the carrier.
“To have an airplane named after Rockhampton is more than just a quirky little Easter egg for plane spotters – it shows our strong links to the Flying Kangaroo to every passenger which gets on that flight,” Cr Fisher said.
“QantasLink and Rockhampton go back a long time and Council is actively building on those decades of partnership to ensure we’re constantly delivering improved outcomes for Rockhampton travellers.
“We have regular meetings with the airlines to discuss a variety of matters and Council will continue to advocate on the community’s behalf.
“We’ve seen a lot of positive announcements already in the past few months and I’m sure that things are only going to get better for Rockhampton with international flights on the cards for next year.
“In the meantime, I know I, like a lot of people, will get a little thrill when I see this Q300 plane touch down in our city or see it on a runaway around the State,” Cr Fisher said.
