Rockhampton the only regional centre to host Federal roundtable
Published on 09 September 2016
What do Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Rockhampton all have in common?
All have been chosen to host a roundtable event for the Federal Government’s Smart Cities and Suburbs Program.
The roundtable event encourages input from Councils, local businesses and the community on how the $50million Program can be designed.
Rockhampton Region Mayor Margaret Strelow said being selected as the first regional centre Australia-wide proves that the Region’s interest and focus on innovative technology is on par with the capital cities.
“This program is designed to create liveable communities that attract growth through the use of technology,” Mayor Strelow said.
“Being included on the Capital City roundtable schedule goes to show that Rockhampton is keeping up with the bigger cities when it comes to innovation.
“This is a great achievement and we consider this to be the first step in our journey to becoming a nationally recognised centre for innovation.”
Rockhampton was also fortunate enough to host the State Government’s Advance Queensland Regional Innovation Hubs Workshop this week.
The workshop was designed to support innovation and entrepreneurship in regional Queensland with Regional Innovation Hubs Funding of $6 million available over three years.
“It’s welcoming to see all levels of Government proactively supporting and embracing technological change that is transforming the way we live and work,” Cr Strelow said.
The Roundtable event is open to the public and will be held on the 22nd of September.
