A delegation from Rockhampton Regional Council’s newly established Friendship City, Zhenjiang Peoples Republic of China, will touch down in Rockhampton today as they visit the City for the first time.

Their visit comes just two weeks after Council’s trade mission to Asia where Council signed a Friendship City Agreement with Zhenjiang in the lead up to becoming an official Sister City.

Rockhampton Region Mayor Margaret Strelow said delegation will be introduced to our local business community at a forum this afternoon, highlighting the many opportunities available through the new partnership.

“We are delighted to be welcoming the Zhenjiang delegates so soon after our visit to China and look forward to hosting them in our City that draws so many comparisons to their own, although on a much smaller scale,” Mayor Strelow said.

“Today’s forum will provide a great opportunity to promote Zhenjiang and our new relationship to the business community and our Council team as we explore the potential to work collaboratively across a variety of sectors.”

The Rockhampton Airport will be a key focal point at today’s meeting, followed by a tour of the facility tomorrow.

Mayor Strelow said additional elements of our Region’s economy will also be discussed, including opportunities around education as well as our world renowned agriculture sector with a focus on beef.

“This builds upon our recently launched Economic Development Action Plan and continues Council’s Advance Rockhampton initiative,” she said.

“I also look forward to once again meeting with Mr John Zhang to thank him for his efforts in helping both Rockhampton and Zhenjiang develop a strong relationship in a very short space of time.”
