Rocky River Run 2022 raises over $24,000 for charity

Rockhampton Regional Council is delighted to announce that over $24,000 is set to go to charity thanks to 1,800 people pounding the pavement at this year’s 7Rocky River Run!

Raising funds to address youth mental health issues and the prevention of youth suicide, 7Rocky River Run saw locals and visitors alike running, walking and riding their way around Rockhampton’s city enjoying a fun day out all for a good cause.

Rockhampton Region Mayor Tony Williams said the funds raised for both R U OK? and Ronald McDonald House Charities South East Queensland is made possible thanks to the participants and sponsors.

“We are so proud to be making a sizeable donation to both R U OK? and Ronald McDonald House,” Mayor Williams said.

CEO R U OK? Katherine Newton said the charity is grateful to have the opportunity to share the R U OK? message with the Rockhampton community. Events such as 7Rocky River Run are a great way to build healthy habits, deepen connections with your friends and family, and raise awareness about the importance of taking the time to ask “are you ok?”.

“Funds raised will help us develop free resources and tools to empower more people to connect and support those who may be struggling with life.” she said

Executive Manager Advance Rockhampton Greg Bowden said Council was ecstatic to see such a great turnout for the event after a week of wet weather.

“Planning has already commenced for the 2023 event with race details and sponsor opportunities to be released soon,” he said.
