With more than 1,100 stalls stocking everything from antiques to collectables and literally even the kitchen sink; tomorrow’s Rocky Swap event is set to be a treasure hunter’s dream.

The event will welcome more than 14,000 swappers, who’ll begin descending on the Rockhampton Showgrounds from as early as 6am.

Chair of Council’s Waste Committee Councillor Neil Fisher said Council is a proud supporter of the event as it helps promote the 'reuse' message which is all about keeping items out of landfills and in someone else's hands.

“We are always very eager to support activities that encourage the reuse of items and the Rocky Swap does exactly this, on a very large scale,” Cr Fisher said.

“It’s the third biggest swap in Australia and sees thousands of pre-loved items up-cycled and reused, and that means thousands of items diverted from our local landfills.”

Cr Fisher said Council will also have a presence at tomorrow’s event with staff from Rockhampton Regional Waste and Recycling hosting a stall; promoting waste diversion and providing giveaways.

The Rocky Swap is run jointly by North Rockhampton Rotary Club and All Classic Motor Club of Central Queensland.

President of the North Rockhampton Rotary Club Ashley Pierpoint said the team are ready to welcome another bumper crowd.

“This is the 21st year for the Rocky Swap and we are hoping for another great turnout tomorrow,” Mr Pierpoint said.

“This event welcomes people Australia wide each year and is always well supported by the local community - with attendees, stall holders and other local clubs locking it into their calendars well in advance.”

Mr Pierpoint said the proceeds raised from the event also enable the Rotary Club to carry out a large amount of community service throughout each year.

The 2017 Rocky Swap is on from 6am until 4pm tomorrow (Saturday 5 August, 2017), at the Rockhampton Showgrounds.
