As the school bells rang and the classrooms emptied, children across the Rockhampton Region welcomed the arrival of school holidays.

Communities and Heritage Councillor Drew Wickerson said school holidays are a fantastic time for the Region, offering opportunities and activities for families within our region and those visiting.

“Rockhampton Regional Council has an array of school holiday activities on offer that not only entertain and educate our youth but also contribute significantly to the overall development of our region," Cr Wickerson said.

“Families can immerse themselves in the history and good old-fashioned fun at the Rockhampton Heritage Village.

“For just $10 entry, children can enjoy a morning of fun outdoor activities, including stagecoach rides, vintage car rides, ‘Rory the Road’ train rides, animal feeding, vintage games, and access to the Heritage Village.

“From heritage to culture, the Rockhampton Museum of Art is offering workshops for the kids, where they can be immersed in art, discover their creative side, and learn valuable skills.

“Spending time indoors and out of the heat is another great way to spend the holidays at one of our Rockhampton Regional Libraries.

“Our libraries have a range of activities available during the holidays, from origami clubs, sewing, crafts, yoga, retro gaming and much more, there is something for all ages.

“The library activities provide a wonderful opportunity to learn and grow.

“If you have an animal-loving child, the Rockhampton Zoo is offering the Junior Zookeeper program, where children aged 8 to 15 get the chance to see what Zookeepers do behind the scenes at the Zoo.

“We also have free daily educational talks, and three animal encounters where you can get up close with our cheeky meerkats, feed water-loving otters, and “cuddle” slithery snakes.

“Whether it is the library, art gallery, heritage village or the zoo, these activities create a sense of belonging and unity that extends beyond the holiday period.

“The activities are carefully curated to be fun and educational, offering many opportunities for kids to learn new skills, explore their interests, and ignite their curiosity.

“The school holiday programs bring children and families together, providing opportunities to meet new friends and strengthen existing relationships.

“Take advantage of the offerings and make the most of our vibrant, welcoming, and enriching region.”
