Smart Hub delivers real results and real jobs

Since opening in May this year, Rockhampton Regional Council’s Smart Hub has already welcomed eight local start-ups through its doors.
Council’s intent to see local entrepreneurs grow their businesses has enjoyed early success with some Smart Hub based innovators already employing additional staff since working in the facility.
Touring the Hub today, Federal MP Michelle Landry, Keppel MP Brittany Lauga and The Honourable Bill Byrne joined Mayor Strelow to meet with some of the local entrepreneurs.
Rockhampton Region Mayor Margaret Strelow said the Smart Hub aligns with the Advance Queensland agenda for innovation entrepreneurship and a digital economy supported by all levels of Government.
“Our Smart Hub is pivotal to maximising the benefits of Smart technologies and aligns with what both the State and Federal Governments are trying to achieve,” Mayor Strelow said.
“Already two tech businesses in the Hub have expanded, with one business employing an additional three staff and another employing an additional two.
“Not only is the variety of businesses impressive, we are seeing real results and real jobs for locals.
The Smart Hub is one of the first Queensland based regional hubs and its establishment was the first action of the Smart Way Forward Strategy that aims to foster innovation and technology for a smarter Region.
The existing office spaces in 212 Quay Street will eventually be transformed into a contemporary open plan space for collaborative working including co-working and casual office space, and meeting rooms with video conferencing facilities.
Local entrepreneurs who are interested in working in the Smart Hub are encouraged to contact Council, regardless of what stage their start-up is at.
