Smooth roads ahead with 2015-16 Budget

Rockhampton Regional Council’s 2015-16 Budget will pave the way for major road repairs and upgrades throughout the Region over the next 12 months, with more than $10 million allocated to roads maintenance.

Chair of Council’s Infrastructure Committee, Councillor Tony Williams said the recently adopted budget includes a continued strong focus on road networks, which means great things for the entire Region.

“Upgrading and maintaining our roads is vital to our local community and assists with keeping our Region moving,” Cr Williams said.

“The roads maintenance budget has been increased over the 2014-15 budget and has a heavy focus on proactively addressing maintenance issues.”

Cr Williams said the budget will allow Council to undertake much needed maintenance to both rural and urban road networks, with several projects planned for the year.

“We will be working on quicker response times to resident requests for pothole repairs and will include a greater emphasis on line marking in response to many approaches from members of the community,” Cr Williams said.

“We will spend $35.8m on roads and drainage- including a preliminary allocation of $10m for the repair of Pilbeam Drive up to Mount Archer which is offset by disaster funding of $10m.”

Further highlights for 2015-16 include the $4m urban road reseal program and $1.7m gravel road re-sheeting program, as well as $400k on the reseal of rural roads.
