Standing for what they believe in during Beef Week

Rockhampton Regional Councillors have been the very public face of our community during Beef 2015.

Trading offices for hay bales and heels for boots, the Councillors have been busy manning the Rockhampton Region stand on roster all week, and anyone who has stood at a trade fair booth will know what that means.

Rockhampton Region Mayor Margaret Strelow said it's hard to overestimate the value of having elected members carry the Region’s message.

“One of our strengths as a Council has been this willingness to all pitch in.” Mayor Strelow said.

“It's been very effective for us in dealing with the resources sector and the Bowen Basin Mining Club - and it's a winning combination on booths and stands across the state as well.”

With exhibitors now into their fifth and final day, Councillors reflect on their Beef Week experience.

Cr Ellen Smith said it’s been a pleasure to fly the flag for the Rockhampton Region, encouraging visitors to enjoy the various attractions on offer throughout the Region.

“It’s been a great week chatting to locals who and have stopped to find out more about our River Festival in July and visitors also want to know more about our amazing Region.  I haven’t met one who hasn't enjoyed their stay in Rockhampton, it's all very positive,” she said.

Cr Rose Swadling said our opportunities are vast and varied through beef and the diversity it brings.

“There is so much that can be done during this week in building relationships and networking to continue the growth and prosperity for our very diverse Region.”

Also exploring opportunities for potential growth and partnership was Cr Neil Fisher who said the Rockhampton Airport was a priority discussion with some delegates.

“Not only was it great to meet a lot of our country friends, but it was an opportunity to discuss future business opportunities for Rockhampton’s Airport in the supply of agricultural products into Asia,” he said.

Throwing their full support at the one-of-a-kind event, Councillors say the countdown has begun for Beef 2018.
