Take a stroll along our majestic city streets and discover the intriguing stories behind Rockhampton’s elegant buildings with Rockhampton Regional Council’s local history officer on Friday 13 May.

Council’s Community Service Committee Chair Councillor Rose Swadling said the East Street History Walk was an interesting way to discover our heritage and reminisce about the Rocky of old.

“Our city has such majestic buildings from the 19th century throughout the CBD and there are many fascinating historical stories behind them that we’d love to share,” Cr Swadling said.

“Council’s Local and Family History Officer will lead the tour talking about the history of East Street, the buildings, and Rocky in general. As the stories unfold, she’ll also draw on our unique historical collection of old photographs, Council Rates books and newspaper articles from the day.

“Our magnificent heritage is on show every day, so what a wonderful experience to learn and discover something new about our grand old city. There’s no doubt it will be captivating and draw our imaginations back to an exciting and inspiring era in time.”

Residents and visitors can further explore our Region’s history, their family history, look up interesting facts or check historical records at Council’s Library History Centre from 9am – 5pm week days.
