Successful Smart Hub calls for more start-ups and entrepreneurs
Published on 09 March 2017
Spurring innovation one start-up at a time, Rockhampton’s Regional Council’s Smart Hub is calling for local start-ups and entrepreneurs to join its co-working space in the CBD.
The Hub currently has ten spaces available and offers an affordable workspace in a collaborative and inclusive environment with other likeminded entrepreneurs.
It’s been less than a year since the Hub opened its doors and already it has generated a number of success stories from tenants who have grown their ideas into rapid expansion.
So far the Hub has welcomed six tenants and a further two are set to move into the Hub after signing up this week.
Providing professional support services to the Smart Hub is super coach Elize Hattin - small business owner and entrepreneur with more than ten years’ experience in business coaching.
As the Hub’s Business Manager, Elize will support the Hub’s tenants as well as the wider start-up community through a range of programs and events.
“Being co-located with other likeminded start-ups has dramatically improved the exposure and networking capability for our current tenants,” Ms Hattin said.
“Already we have seen how the low cost of the Smart Hub facility has been integral to the exponential growth of some start-ups and their ability to initially invest in employees rather than a commercial space.
“One tenant has employed an additional five staff; another has employed six, and a third employed four people before outgrowing the Hub and moving into a commercial premise.
“Some of the people employed had been searching for work in the larger cities, so being able to retain and grow local jobs in Rockhampton is exactly the result we are after.”
Council is encouraging anyone with a business venture interested in working in the Smart Hub to get in contact with Elize.
“We are committed to supporting our start-ups in this region and we want to welcome and support others like we have helped our existing tenants,” she said.
“We will always have openings become available as start-ups come and go as they begin to independently establish a physical presence in our region, so we strongly encourage anyone who is interested in using the space to get in touch with us.”
Next week Council will reveal a range of new programs and events that will assist start-ups, entrepreneurs and small business owners to achieve their own goals.
