Successful projects in Regional Arts Development Fund

Published on 28 July 2017

Students wanting to flip, turn and tumble will now get the chance with Flipside Circus workshops visiting several schools thanks to funding from the Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF).

Councillor Rose Swadling Chair of Rockhampton Regional Council’s Community Services Committee announced a total of four projects in round three funding.

“Several times each year RADF, a partnership between the Queensland Government and Council, supports our talented art specialists across our Region, with round three funding aimed at school students – our up and coming artists and performers!” Cr Swadling said.

“We have Flipside Circus workshops visiting Mount Morgan, Bouldercombe, Bajool and Marmor schools; a mosaic wall art about friendship, community and leadership from students at St Mary’s Primary school; and a Heritage Collection skills workshop for Rockhampton High School students.

“These are really grassroots projects instilling in our next generation a sense of fun and artistic skills but also a sense of community spirit – all wonderful elements for future success in the arts.”

Round three funding also included a performance collaboration in Mount Morgan. The four projects totalled $15,273 for RADF Round Three 2016-2017.

Queensland Premier and Arts Minister Annastacia Palaszczuk said RADF delivered on the Queensland Government’s commitment to foster diverse and inclusive communities, grow strong regions and provide training, education, and employment opportunities for Queenslanders.

“The Queensland Government is contributing $2.08 million to leverage up to $1.92 million from local councils resulting in up to $4 million available to support arts and cultural activities throughout the state in 2016–17,” the Premier said.

“This funding promotes the role and value of arts, culture and heritage as key drivers of inclusive communities and strong regions and ensures Queenslanders can engage with arts locally,” she said.

“Each year around 500,000 people are involved in RADF projects as practitioners, participants or audience members.”
