Between now and the end of February, Quay Street will come to life on weekends thanks to Rockhampton Regional Council’s new Lively Quay Street programme.

A Film Festival, tribute concert, cultural workshops and plenty of markets are among the events that we will see along the riverfront this Summer.

Rockhampton Region Mayor Margaret Strelow said Council received an overwhelming response from event organisers wanting to be a part of the Quay Street calendar of events after calling for expressions of interest in August.

“The Lively Quay Street Programme is about delivering a range of exciting events to be held regularly on our beautiful Quay Street for our community to enjoy on a weekend. Best of all, these events will always be free,” Mayor Strelow said.

“Over the past six months Quay Street has hosted the third annual River Festival, the Food and Wine Festival, two Laneways Festivals, and the Rocky River Run. All these events drew thousands of people to our riverfront and laneways, activating spaces that have not been celebrated for decades.

“With an event on Quay Street nearly every weekend it will become a place people naturally want to go after work on a Friday or Saturday for entertainment, market shopping, and for family friendly events.

“This programme will not only help highlight the excellent local talent we have, from music to arts and crafts to cultural groups, but will also celebrate our community spirit. What better place to celebrate than outdoors on our wonderful riverfront,” Mayor Strelow said
