Supporting local businesses is key to recovery

It’s no doubt local businesses throughout the Rockhampton Region have proven their commitment to the community in the wake of TC Marcia.
With some areas of the Region resembling a battleground, business operators were opening their doors to the public within hours of the cyclone passing.
Rockhampton Region Mayor Margaret Strelow says the best way to provide long-term assistance to support the recovery of local businesses is to shop local.
“We ask residents of the Region to support our local businesses as we rebuild our community and our homes, right down to purchasing household items we have lost,” Mayor Strelow said.
“There will be many small repair jobs around the home, and while I understand we want to get these done quickly, we will need to remain patient as contractors, plumbers and electricians are inundated with work.
“This is also an important time for our builders as the workload creates space for more jobs as residents begin to survey their damage.
“We have great diversity within our local business sector so there’s every opportunity to buy local and help restore the economy as we recover.
“I thank our local business owners for working around the clock to get the city back to business and helping residents return to a normal life,” she said.
